Combined Altitude and Vibration Testing

Quest Engineering Solutions is a leading provider of combined altitude and vibration testing, and many other testing services.

Sealed medical packaging will expand during shipment by air or shipment by truck at high altitudes. The expanded packaging can abrade during vibration because of how it contacts adjacent packages or packaging materials. This abrasion can cause loss of sterility. Simultaneous altitude and vibration testing is essential for sealed medical packaging in order to assure maintenance of sterility during air or high altitude ground transportation.

Quest has been performing simultaneous altitude and vibration testing for many years. We now have a very large hydraulic transportation vibration simulator that can perform all standard shipping vibration tests, and we have combined it with a cylindrical altitude chamber with interior dimensions of 41″ in height and 26″ in diameter. This capability greatly exceeds that of our competitors.

With this test setup, we are able to perform the ISTA 3A Vibration with Low Pressure test (BLOCKS 2 & 8 of the ISTA 3A Standard). Our setup is fully compliant with ASTM D6653 and ISTA 3A.

ISTA 3A Random Vibration with Low Pressure Test using Quest’s custom setup

If your test sample is larger than our standard altitude chamber, we are able to accommodate larger test sample sizes with the help of our local in-house machinists, and create custom test vessels to fit your particular test sample size.

Check out a video of the test in action below. The test being performed in the video is the ISTA 3A Vibration with Low Pressure Test.
